Insurance Information
Costa Rica Sun Tours is a Licensed Tour Operator (License No. 208) registered with the Costa Rica Tourism Board, a governmental entity. Our company has been operating since September 1988.
During all these years we have never had any liability claims made against us. Safety in our operations is our number one priority and concern. For your and our protection we carry a Comprehensive Insurance Policy.
Costa Rica Sun Tours will, at its expense, procure and maintain all of the insurance stipulated in this Section.
Costa Rica Sun Tours will provide our wholesalers and travel agents with certificates of insurance evidencing insurance coverage in full compliance with these requirements when requested.
Oceanica de Seguros Liability Insurance
Costa Rica Sun Tours maintains a basic civil responsibility insurance in the amount of USD $ 200,000.00 (Poliza RCGE-1433) and a supplemental umbrella insurance up to USD $ 2,000,000.00 (Poliza RCUM-97).
Workers Compensation Insurance
Costa Rica Sun Tours complies with Costa Rica labour laws, requiring that employers protect their employees with Social Security which covers sickness, pregnancy, and non-work related accidents for the employee and his/her dependents and Workers Compensation Insurance which covers work-related accidents. There are no limits to the amount of compensation.
Vehicle Insurance
All of our transportation services are sub-contracted. Costa Rica Sun Tours will ensure that all vehicles used to provide transportation services for our clients are insured and carry coverages “A” Personal Liability that covers injury or death of 300 million colones per accident (approx. USD $500,000) and “C” Property Damage to a third party of 30 million colones per accident (approx. USD $58,000). Certificate of insurance evidencing insurance coverage in full compliance with these requirements is updated annually and kept in each service providers respective file.
Additional documents Available for Review Upon Request:
1. Operators Emergency Procedures or our Manual de Atencion de Emergencias. This is a 26-page document in Spanish that is reviewed with our guides and drivers and covers aspects on how to prepare for a tour, including instructions to clients and what to do in a case of an emergency, how to handle an emergency should one arise, basic first aid kit and emergency phone numbers.
2. Manual General de Seguridad para guias. These are general guidelines we review with our guides on Safety Considerations to follow when conducting various activities like nature hikes, rafting, horseback riding, zip-line tours.
3. Contrato Transportistas. This is a document we review annually with transportation services we contract regarding Vehicle Insurance Requirements and Compliance, Safety, Proper Conduct, etc.
4. Costa Rica Sun Tours Release of Liability Form. In most instances our “Wholesalers” have clients sign a Release of Liability Form. On occasions, if clients are participating in an activity that requires a “waiver or release” and we don’t have a copy of the Agencies Release of Liability we may ask clients to sign these forms. Some of the higher risk activities tour operators like rafting or canopy tours require clients to sign a waiver anyways in order for their insurance to be effective.
