Bird & Wildlife Watching Costa Rica

This trip has been handcrafted for some of the very best wildlife and birdwatching in Costa Rica. You will be able to photograph birds, mammals, reptiles & amphibians, monkeys, snakes, flowers, frogs, turtles, bats, butterflies and more!

Costa Rica Birding Tours / Birding In Costa Rica

You’ll visit the area where the endemic Green Macaws can be seen as well as Scaled Macaw, this area is home to some 450 bird species, over half of the bird species of Costa Rica. Immerse yourself in one of the best places to view the Resplendent Quetzal, with its vivid green and red plumage that has earned the reputation as one of the world’s most beautiful birds. Hummingbirds are everywhere including the fiery-throated and green violetears. Other wildlife you may see are red-eyed tree frogs, white-nosed coati, lizards, butterflies, howler monkeys, and bats.

Costa Rica Bird Watching Photography Tours

The workshop is designed for a small group of anyone who aims to improve their wildlife photography skills or for those intermediate to advanced photographers who want to be in the ideal place to shoot. Our local guide/photographer Alex Arias is amazing! Not only being one of the very best guides in Costa Rica, he’s just fun to be with and has the ability to find wildlife and birds like no other.

Quetzal Bird Watching Costa Rica

During the Quetzal season, we will look for our colorful friend, first at Paraíso del Quetzal, where we will search and try to photograph this exceptional bird. After your hike through the lush forest, take some time to visit the hummingbird garden for some amazing photos of this colorful species. It’s incredible how close they come to you, flitting and darting around the vibrant flowers; this is one of the best birdwatching locations.

Our second chance to encounter this magnificent bird is at Los Quetzales National Park, where you will hike around 2 hours and enjoy the climate cool and fresh, the park is typically entrenched in a haze of thick clouds. Moss-covered hardwoods, alpine plants, highland birds, and other flora and fauna that live only at such extreme elevations. The flora and fauna differ greatly from what you’ll see at lower altitudes. In the montane and premontane forest lives a multitude of birds and animals, many of which don’t exist anywhere else in Costa Rica. More than 200 species of birds have been spotted in the park like Resplendent Quetzal, trogons, hummingbirds, redstarts, wrens, and woodpeckers.

Our Costa Rica photography expedition will take us to three locations: the rain forest of the Caribbean Lowlands, river canals, and the dry forest of the central highlands.
